“Use of Results” and “Improvement” are ubiquitous in assessment language. Unfortunately - in practice -  most institutions struggle to connect the results of assessment with student learning improvement. This workshop is designed to help institutions bridge this gap. This workshop is reflective of a nationwide effort to transition higher education from a culture of assessment to a culture of learning improvement.  Specifically, participants attending this session will:

  • Describe the prevalence of examples of improved learning in higher education (or lack thereof)
  • Explain the various definitions of “use of assessment results”
  • Explain the a model of improved learning (Fulcher et al., 2014)
  • Describe potential barriers to improving learning
  • Synthesize ideas about how they can help their own institution evidence learning improvement
