Many institutions of higher education share the goal of preparing graduates who are ready to pursue their careers, lead satisfying lives, and transform the world.  In order to achieve this goal, these same institutions invest time, money, and dedicated personnel to a myriad of programs and activities that can lead to student success and, more broadly, institutional success. Assessment is the bridge from inputs to realized outcomes, indicating any given institution’s return on its significant investment.

How Do College Presidents View Assessment?

This regional event will offer attendees an exciting opportunity to learn about the view from the top. A panel of local College Presidents will address the myth that assessment is merely a tedious exercise in compliance and will explain how assessment is a critical mechanism for creating value for all Higher Education stakeholders, especially students.

Can All Colleges Afford “Good” Assessment?

At any institution, effective, efficient assessment should highlight how various programs add value to any its students’ college experience. Hartwick College’s Dean of Assessment and Retention, Kimberly Yousey-Elsener, will demonstrate how such assessment is within reach of all institutions. Based on her experience at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Campus Labs, the University at Buffalo, and Hartwick College, Yousey-Elsener will provide a "how-to" lesson on good assessment practices in even the most demanding fiscal environments.
